I had a teacher say to me once, "I hate teaching the Tudors. It's so boring." My gut reaction was disbelief. How can anyone hate teaching the Tudors? My only ambition as an NQT was to one day work at a school where I might be allowed to teach the Tudors to A Level, rather than trying to somehow temper my passion for a Year 7 audience. Then I realised that for someone entering the profession without a mild obsession with French hoods and Game of Thrones parallels, it could be a dry subject. It could even be boring - if taught entirely from the textbook, without the anecdotes that give it all its juicy character.
